Dr. McCrone's Letter to Father Rinaldi
The bombshell occurred when Dr. McCrone wrote a letter on February 12,1980 to Fr. Rinaldi (pg. 174) “Judgment Day of the Turin Shroud” announcing that he is positively correct that the shroud is a mid-evil forgery. He writes “I can’t tell you how much I regret these results. I am telling you as soon as I can and there will be no public announcement until we have all had an opportunity to think about it”. I am concern about STURP scientists. They have consistently maintained a ‘head in the sand’ attitude and they may well fight against my findings. This is another reason for my delay. I want to try to convince them that I am correct. In the meantime,
let me assure you there is no possibility that I could be wrong”. This statement from Dr. McCrone was taken from his book titled, “Judgement day of the Turin Shroud, page 175.
Three years of searching in the Guild’s archive, The Holy Shroud Guild does not have the February 12th letter. Why? Because the Guild never received such a letter that he explains in his book. In fact on page 187 he states the letter as “my February 20th letter”. The letter in fact we received was dated February 20th 1980.
It’s important to understand the dynamic of the February 20th letter. The February 20th letter sheds new light to exactly what Dr. McCrone’s plans actually were.
