Giorgio, I disagree with your commentary. Not because you are wrong, but because the story is much more intriguing if Hitler was hot on the trail of the King's prized relic to enhance his occult powers! LOL
Hi Russ, I had a hunch you were going to comment.....LOL
I can't disagree with you either. No doubt, Heinrich Himmler was a fanatic to the old Teutonic world powers and the importance of these relics in the Reichs history. Operation Barbarossa name says it all.
I'm just leaning logistically and militarily it would not make sense; or for the very least, at that time. One can argue Hitler was no genius in military matters. If you ever read John Cornwell's 1999 book, Hitler's Pope, besides it paints a bad light on Pope Pius Xll, he also claims that Hitler wanted to occupy the Vatican. Supposedly, he assigned a General for that task, but the General knew that that would be castastrofic.Several months later pretending that he was actively pursuing how to achieve Hitler's objective, he told Hitler the Italian Catholics would strongly object as well as Catholics in the Fatherland. You don't need to be a rocket scientists to figure that out.
In my humble opionion, the article published in Diva e Donna was sensationalized, absent of criticle thinking and journalistic integrity. Then of course it was picked up by every international tabloid to make money. In reality, no one can really say if Hitler was acitivily looking for the Shroud or not. The objective of the article was to minimize the sensationalism of the content and more importantly, lead to the next 3 part posting on who owned the Shroud after the referendum.
Cheers Russ.........
